FRACTIONAL CMO: FRISCO, TX

With notable companies like Gearbox Software, Ruiz Foods and Dr Pepper Snapple Group, as well as fast-growing enterprises like T-Mobile and TIAA, Frisco has become a go-to destination for those seeking entrepreneurial opportunities and technological advancements.

Thriving Innovation

For those of you who don’t know, Frisco, Texas is part of the Dallas-Forth Worth Metroplex.  Before you go lumping Frisco in there with “Dallas”, you should know that Frisco itself has developed its very own reputation as a center of cutting-edge technology, innovation and business. Thanks to some deliberate planning, it’s become the home of a rapidly growing number of successful enterprises. The Frisco Chamber of Commerce, the mayor and several development councils have created a thriving environment that encourages innovation and entrepreneurship.  Several cases in point: well-known names like Toyota, Pizza Hut, Keurig Dr Pepper, Frito-Lay, and JCPenney, have decided to relocate their headquarters to Frisco, Texas.

That means Frisco supports a wide range of businesses and industries with different goals and structures. That means all their eggs are not in one industry basket.  They have resilience. And growth. And it’s not an accident.  Recently Texas offered attractive incentives such as a decade-long exemption from hotel, sales, and some mixed beverage taxes, to trigger a move from PGA of America to Frisco from its 60-year home in Florida.

In 2022, the Fortune 500 company TIAA announced plans to open a regional headquarters in Frisco. They are constructing a 15-story office tower near The Star in Frisco, making it the largest real-estate deal in the Dallas-Fort Worth area since the pandemic. TIAA expects to create over 2,600 jobs in Frisco, potentially becoming the city’s largest employer.

Other significant moves to Frisco include ExteNet Systems from Chicago, Boingo and Ruiz Foods from California.  An expansion of McAfee’s regional headquarters at The Star was announced in January 2023. Toshiba Global Commerce Solutions opened an Innovation & Incubation Hub in Frisco in September 2022.  Comerica Bank plans to open its business and innovation hub there by late 2023 or early 2024. Meanwhile, Wiley X, the largest law enforcement protective eyewear manufacturer, completed its move from California to Frisco this year (2023).  “Escapes California” as the press release read.

To put it mildly, Frisco has become a hub for corporate innovation and research, housing five Fortune 500 corporate centers. The city also hosted Dallas Startup Week again earlier this year (October), highlighting its growing role as a business and innovation center.

Frisco is also part of a larger growing trend nationally.  Relocation to Texas.  According to this article in buildremote.co, of the companies that moved to Texas from 2020-2023:

  • 88 were from California
  • 13 from New York
  • 9 were from Illinois
  • 6 were from Washington
  • 6 were from Florida
  • The rest of the country contributed 44

Frisco Fractional CMOs

While we don’t have any fractional CMOs in Frisco specifically, we do have quite a few in Texas.  That said, since most fractional executives work remotely, industry specificity is probably far more important.  Check out more details in our article titled “Choosing a Fractional CMO Agency.”

Meanwhile, our roster is currently expanding at a rate of 5-7 superstars per week.  Their availability changes constantly.  The best thing to do is to contact us and explain your exact needs so we can research who will be the best fit.

Why Remote Fractional CMOs Work

Due to the huge uptick of remote work during the pandemic, the idea of remote work is no longer foreign to most companies.  The resulting technological advancements helped.  While we might be on the other side of the WFH explosion, companies are keener to take advantage of global talent when it makes sense.

A temporary, part-time engagement, otherwise known as “fractional” is one of those times.

Consequently, remote fractional Chief Marketing Officers (CMOs) have become increasingly popular.  These CMOs offer flexibility and allow businesses to tap into top talent globally, without geographical constraints. They use digital tools to manage workloads, collaborate with teams, and deliver results efficiently. Sure, some offer in-person consultations as needed.  However, the virtual model is dominant due to its convenience, efficiency and improved access to high-end talent.

Industry Specific CMOs

What do they know about your Ideal Customer Profile (ICP)?  That is the question.  As of 2023, we have over 75 CMOs on the roster with careers that span almost every industry imaginable.   Examples include former CMOs and VPs from major companies like Walt Disney, CISCO, Zipcar, Salesforce, Hootsuite, UberEATS, eHarmony, eBay, PayPal, Whole Foods, PepsiCo, NBC Universal, Hasbro, Edelman, Omnicom Group, and more…

What Are the Benefits of Hiring a Fractional CMO?

As I say on our homepage, hire someone who has already done exactly what you are trying to do.  3 times.  They already have a battle tested growth map.  For your industry.  Have them build out a scalable growth engine for you in 4 months and then have your team run it.  You can’t imagine how much hiring a fractional CMO can significantly impact business growth. They allow owners to focus on their core operations, while they develop comprehensive marketing strategies, manage resources efficiently, and bring industry. Fractional CMOs can even aid in hiring top marketing talent.  For a full outline of benefits, see our article titled “What is a Fractional CMO?

Explain Fractional CMO Services

Fractional CMOs offer a range of services, including developing marketing strategies, leadership, training, marketing automation, brand management, and customer acquisition optimization. I feel their services fall mostly into one of three buckets:

  1. Growth Marketing
  2. Brand Marketing
  3. Product Marketing

For a full outline of services, you should see our article titled “Fractional CMO Services.”

Average Cost of a Fractional CMO

It depends.  Most Factional Executives prefer a Scope of Work (SOW), not an hourly rate.  Our fractional CMOs charge about $12K-18K per month on average, with a 4 month commitment.  You can expect about 20 hours of work a week for that +/- but the work is not billed hourly.  That means about a third to half of their weekly workload.  For more information, you should see our article titled “What is a Good Fractional CMO Hourly Rate.”
